Make sure you’re on the Voters List!
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for collecting the information of residents in Ontario (name, date of birth, citizenship and school support) in order to create a preliminary list of electors for Municipal and School Board Elections.  Municipalities will use the preliminary list of electors to prepare their voters list for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Elections.

 

VOTER INFORMATION

The information in this section provides a general introduction to the upcoming Municipal and School Board Elections. This information is not meant to replace provincial legislation. It provides general information about the rules outlined in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the Municipal Act, 2001 and other legislation and regulations.

No person who proposes to be a candidate may solicit or accept contributions for election purposes, or incur campaign expenses, until that person has filed a Nomination form with the Township Clerk.

Nomination papers may be filed at the Office of the Clerk at the Brooke-Alvinston Municipal Office. Nomination forms and full particulars of the nomination process can be obtained from the Office of the Clerk in which nomination papers must be filed, or telephone inquiries may be made to 519-898- 2173

Important Election Dates:
Nomination Period Begins – May 2, 2022
Nomination Deadline – August 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
Voting Day – October 24, 2022
New Term Start Date – November 15, 2022

Resources that may be of interest if you are considering running for Council:

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE?

You are eligible to vote in the municipal election if you meet all of the following requirements on election day:

  • you are aged 18 or older
  • you are a Canadian citizen
  • you are a resident of the municipality, or non-resident owner or tenant of land located in the municipality, or the spouse of an owner or tenant of land located in the municipality
  • not legally prohibited from voting

Neither you nor your spouse qualify as a non-resident elector if you do not personally own or rent the property in the municipality. For example: if the property is owned by your business or your cottage is owned by a trust, you are not qualified as a non-resident elector.

In order to cast a ballot, your name must be on the voters’ list.
